New Community Hub gets planning permission

Proposed community hub in Raglan

We are delighted to announce that the new £1m Community Hub in Raglan has successfully achieved planning permission. A big thank you to all our partners, supporters and volunteers for getting us to the halfway point in this six year project.

The aim of the hub is to provide a permanent, purpose built home for community activity in the village, as well as improving access to services. Feedback and ideas from local residents shaped the final design, coordinated by our volunteers.

Monmouthshire architects Hall + Bednarczyk produced a design which aims to balance cutting-edge design sensitively and cost effectively within Raglan’s traditional village setting. The proposal has been granted planning permission by Monmouthshire County Council.

Our Chair, Chris Butler-Donnelly, said: “We’re so proud and delighted to have achieved this milestone. This community building is much needed to create a permanent facility for everyone in the local community to share.

“Planning permission marks the halfway point in our six-year plan to improve community services in Raglan and brings us a step closer to an attractive, multi-purpose local venue.

“Having up-to-date facilities will make a big difference to residents in Raglan and the surrounding areas. A wider variety of events and better availability of services will really benefit both local people and businesses.

“The hub is a local project and we couldn’t have got here without the support of our partners, volunteers and the wider community. A big thank you to everyone, including the BIG Lottery for awarding their generous capital development grant, and to Monmouthshire County Council for their continued backing of the project.

“Our focus now is to secure capital development funding to build the Community Hub in Raglan. It’s an exciting time for Raglan so if you’d like to get involved then please do get in touch. Our community is very much at the heart of this project, we’re all volunteers and want it to be something that everyone can enjoy for generations to come.”

The planning and design process was funded by a BIG Lottery (People and Places) capital development grant of £47,904, awarded to the Raglan Village Hall Association in 2016. Quantity surveyors Adams Fletcher & Partners and architects Hall + Bednarczyk have helped to ensure the cost effective development of the design.

The finalised designs and planning permission will form the basis of further submissions to BIG Lottery, and to other funders including the Welsh Government. Once funding has been secured, the former Raglan Junior School site will be transferred by Monmouthshire County Council to the Raglan Village Hall Association and construction can begin.
